MISSION STATEMENT

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, is a Roman Catholic Community, built upon faith in God, centered in Christ and dedicated to Mary, Mother of the Church. As a welcoming family inspired by the Holy Spirit and gifted with the boundless love and mercy of God, we are committed to becoming witnesses of God’s presence in the Southtowns Lakeshore area, nurturers of life, promoters of justice and stewards of God’s creation.

Our mission calls us to:

 Uphold the dignity of all people
 Protect the sacredness of all creation, especially human life at every stage of development
 Recognize and appreciate the uniqueness and individuality of each member
 Challenge one another to create a vibrant parish that is welcoming, nurturing and forgiving
 Promote the spiritual growth of each member through prayer, worship, education and service
 Share our God-given talents, time and financial resources

Parish Ministries & Organizations


ALTAR & ROSARY SOCIETY: An organization of Parish Women with devotion to Our Lady through the Rosary, provide flowers, and raise money for church furnishings and decorations. Sunday Communion Mass: 2nd Sunday of each month. Meetings: 2nd Monday evening of each month. New members are always welcome. 2007-08 Calendar of Events & Meetings

ALTAR SERVERS: An opportunity for boys and girls (8-17) to participate as Christian witnesses in a more meaningful way supportive of their spiritual growth in the life of Christ.    Altar Server Schedule

BEREAVEMENT COMMITTEE - Home visitation to newly bereaved families, offering assistance and solace. Arranging a special Bereavement Mass of Remembrance at weekend Masses immediately after All Souls Day especially for families who have lost a loved one during the past year.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD, Conduct Readings and explanations for Young Children during the 9:15 Sunday Mass for 1 month

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: Men and Women in the parish who have commited to spending time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday Evenings (7-10 PM) in our Little Church.  July-December 2009 Schedule 


EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: Men and Women who assist in distributing the Eucharistic at Mass. A Ministry of service and love. EM Schedule

EVANGELIZATION COMMITTEE, Meets 3rd Saturday of each month after morning Mass. Plan and sponsor activities which WELCOME new families, spread Christ’s word to the unchurched and lapsed Catholics, conduct ecumenical gatherings with neighboring Churches.

FAMILY NEEDS Provide services satisfying Family Needs or to the Sick & Handicapped.

GREETERS: Members of our Church Community who express for us all the joy we feel in welcoming others to our worship services, by greeting people in the lobby as they arrive. New Greeters are needed

HOLY NAME SOCIETY: An organization of Parish Men who revere the Most Holy Name of God; encourage the frequent reception of the sacraments and an active religious life; and sponsor a program of religious and social activities to promote the welfare of the Parish. Sunday Communion Mass: 2nd Sunday of each month. Meetings: 2nd Sunday after the Communion Mass. new members are always welcome.

JUSTICE & PEACE COORDINATOR – An opportunity to put your Catholic faith into action – through prayer, education and donations of time and money. A great way to feel you’ve made a difference.


LECTORS: Men and Women to speak the Word of God, conveying its meaning, importance, and beauty to the entire Congregation at Weekend Masses. Lector Schedule

MINISTRY OF PRAISE - Each day in their homes these Ministers offer prayer and sacrifice to God for the redemption of the world and for the benefit of members of the parish community. This ministry is especially suitable for those who may be unable to leave their homes because of age or physical condition.

MISSION, A week-long Parish Retreat open to all during Lent each year planned and conducted by those who have already made MISSION.


MUSIC MINISTRY:

CHOIR: A mixed voice singing group who sing traditional Hymns to Organ Accompaniment. New Members are welcome.

CONTEMPORARY MUSIC MINISTRY: A group of mixed voices and instruments who lead the congregation in new and traditional songs of worship at 9:15 Sunday Mass each week, and at other special Liturgies. New members are welcome.

YOUTH MUSIC MINISTRY: A group of teenagers under the direction of Bob & Julie Fera playing and singing Contemporary Christian Music for our Sunday 6:30 PM Masses. (September – May)


PARISH LEADERSHIP TEAM - A representative Council selected to propose Parish goals, develop plans to accomplish goals, find achievable ways to implement plans, and coordinate activities of Parish organizations.


PARISH NEIGHBORS: The Parish Neighbors welcome new Parishioners by personal visits to our Senior Citizens, providing luncheon receptions after parish funerals if desired, and generally try to be good neighbors to their co-parishioners. New members are welcome.

PRE-BAPTISM - To prepare parents who are to have an infant Baptized. This class is required to parents who wish to have their 1st child baptized, or if it has been longer than 3 years since taking the class. Please contact the Parish Office for information.

RCIA - Help to prepare and educate Adults who are studying to become Roman Catholics.


RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: If your children attend public school, they need a solid grounding in their faith. Don't just register for Religious Education, but also make sure they attend every week, and check up to see how much they're learning.

RESPECT LIFE - Gives witness, writes letters, operates a phone tree, attends peaceful demonstrations: all supporting the Right To Life.


SHRINE & GROUNDS COMMITTEE - Periodically work on maintenance of grass, flowers & shrubs surrounding, church and shrine usually on Saturday mornings.

SICK & HANDICAPPED - Assist the Sick and Handicapped and their family members, provide transportation to the doctor’s, etc.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY - Provides material help to needy persons and family.

SUNDAY COFFEE & DONUTS - Promotes Parish fellowship by providing coffee & donuts in the Community Room after the 9:15 Mass every Sunday.


USHERS - Take up collections, organize presentation of the gifts, pass out bulletins and other such appropriate duties on a regular basis at a specific weekend Mass.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES – JR & SR - To provide Church-centered recreation and guidance to the youth of our parish. conXions website
